Small Skellig Gannet Colony & Nature Reserve

About the Small Skellig

Just a stone’s throw from its famous neighbour, Little Skellig (An Scealg Bheag) rises from the Atlantic like a snow-capped mountain—except the white covering isn’t snow. It’s home to Ireland’s largest gannet colony and one of the biggest in the world, with over 30,000 breeding pairs packed onto every ledge and outcrop of this dramatic rock.

Landing on Little Skellig is not permitted, making our panoramic boat tour the only way to experience this extraordinary island up close. As we circle the rock, you’ll witness thousands of gannets diving, soaring, and nesting just metres from the boat—a wildlife spectacle that leaves visitors utterly speechless and reaching for their cameras.

See Little Skellig From the Water

Little Skellig is a towering cathedral of rock and wings. As our boat draws close, the sheer scale of the gannet colony becomes breathtaking—every surface alive with nesting birds, and the air filled with their calls.

Our experienced skippers know exactly where to position the boat for the best views and photo opportunities, while our guides share fascinating insights into the lives of these remarkable seabirds.

With no age restrictions and small group sizes, this is a family-friendly adventure everyone can enjoy.
