About the Boat Tour
Our boat tour leaves from Portmagee harbour on the Iveragh Peninsula and heads out along the Wild Atlantic Way to the Skellig Islands. The crossing takes about 45 minutes each way, and you’re out on the open Atlantic with the Kerry coast behind you.
It’s a panoramic tour, which means we don’t land on the island. There’s no climbing or walking involved, so you can sit back and take in the views. That makes it a good fit for all ages and abilities, from young children to grandparents, and for anyone interested in the history, the wildlife or the Star Wars connection.
All our trips leave from the marina in Portmagee, on the Ring of Kerry. It’s about an hour and a half’s drive from Killarney and about 20 minutes from Cahersiveen. If you’re staying in Dingle, allow around an hour and three quarters. There’s no ferry to Skellig Michael, so a boat trip is the only way to get out to the islands.
Around the islands
Our route goes right around both islands, so you see them from every side. You’ll see the old monastery high up on Skellig Michael, the places where The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi were filmed, and the sea arches the waves have worn into the rock.
Keep an eye on the water too. Dolphins, seals and sometimes basking sharks are seen along the way, especially in the summer.
We run several trips a day during the season, so you can pick a time that suits you. Each trip takes about 2 to 2.5 hours.
Book NowBook your trip around the Skelligs
Our boat trips go around the Skellig Islands and leave from Portmagee harbour every day during the season. We run from April to October, and the best time for wildlife is May to August. Tickets are €70 for adults and €60 for children. Places are limited, so it’s a good idea to book early.
BOOK NOWWhat to bring on your trip
It’s worth bringing a few things with you.
Sun cream, sunglasses and a hat, as there’s very little shade on the water
Warm layers that keep the wind out, because it can be cold out there even on a calm day
Flat shoes with good grip, since the deck can get wet from the spray
Binoculars and a camera for the monastery, the gannets and the seals
